The GM Dual controller does indeed allow Common Return wiring for the two 'Track' outputs.
However, on no account must the Auxiliary outputs (12v DC and 16v AC) become connected to the common return. As these share the same transformer winding per output as each track controller does!

I am curious. How would this work. My layout is DCC with electrofrog points with frog juicers. in DC operation would changing points result in a short?
This is a good idea especially if one wishes to buy, for example, an Cl 08 shunter, (which I would like to), which are DC only and probably some others.

Not really anything made that are DC only any more.

Any loco can be converted to DCC - admittedly some are very tricky and are best avoided but the 08s don’t fall into that category.

You cannot use electronic Frog Juicers on a DC powered layout. They are (unless they have altered their spec?) for use on DCC (Digital) power only.
DC only locos can be converted with time and skill and a decoder of suitable size.

The reverse of this is that you can drop the frog juicer and use a switch to ensure the frog is the correct polarity... some motors have switches built in... for the peco type (pl-10) you can add a pl-13 or pl-15 to achieve this.

this method covers both DC and DCC Operation as far as I am aware.
