Dc and Dcc combined

#1

Post by brian1951 »

I have seen a layout ( but forgotten were ) that had a master switch which controlled Dc and Dcc current, ie. one or the other impossible to have both connected. Could someone point out how to wire such a thing please.

You use a double pole, double throw (DPDT) centre off switch. Connect the dc controller to one pair of outer terminals and the DCC controller to the other pair of outer terminals. The track is connected to the centre pair.

Edit to add image.

I bought a couple of these, but they are very tiny, and not easy to solder. Are bigger ones available, or do i need a magnifying glass.

It was some time ago, but they came from ebay. They were tiny, and my pork sausage fingers had a problem with attaching wires, as terminals were very close together. With disabled hands, i would prefer one with spade terminals. The ones that came just had little prongs.

You can get them with screw terminals.
