BUS WIRING QUESTION

I am still a novice but making progress. My question is how to remove some insulation from the bus wire to connect the dropper wires ?
Normally you can just use a wire stripper and pull the insulation off the end of the wire, but when it is in the middle of a longer run how do you remove the insulation? Thanks in advance.

Hi
Simplest and safest is to use one of these linked below... It pushes the insulation back along the wire so as you can wrap the dropper wire around the bared copper bus wire.. Examples... https://www.screwfix.com/p/magnusson-ra ... rs-8/5175v
Or
https://www.toolstation.com/ck-automati ... per/p42984
Or
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Automatic-Pl ... :rk:1:pf:0

The other (more dangerous) method is to use a utility knife (Stanley style knife) and carefully remove a section of the bus wires insulation.

Thank you for your prompt answer Brian, having read the reviews of the Screwfix one you refer to I think I will give it a miss.

I thought they were all great reviews but maybe I had missed something. Obviously not.

I have had a CK auto wire stripper for over two years now. Brilliant is the only words, *CK is cheaper in Toolstation as per my link

Me too, bought them on your advice. The sparky who has rewired my sons house uses them.

Thank you for the replies so far. With ALL Screwfix reviews I always take the review option of ‘low to high’ which gives all the not so good reviews first. Perhaps I should listen to the reviews here rather than what might be a spoiler review on Screwfix.

Consider how much they are going to be used and how they will prevent you needing a large box of Elastoplast.

I have been to Screwfix and obtained one. It appears to be just the job. Thank you for keeping me right.
