Grabbed this from Lidl for less than a tenner. It is limited on DC and AC current range but fine for layout use to avoid dragging out the proper meter.
I may try adding a croc clip to the negative probe to free up one hand. The postive probe is the end of the 'pen'.



Edit - this thing is a tad inaccurate trying to measure DCC on the AC volts scale. It read just over 2 volts.
