I am currently retrieving my service records from MOD but first attempt was missing four postings! I had a reply to my resulting queries but still not correct as it has me arriving and departing from RAF Watton on the same day though I spent more than six weeks there, so I need to query again. The interesting bit was my medical records that contain stuff I'd forgotten about, but it was 60 years ago lol.
Most people are shocked when they find out how bad I am as an electrician
I not only have my full RAF service record but also act as custodian for the total record set for all of our apprentice entry, whilst in training. Some interesting memos and snippets in there I can tell you.

if the service was short are the persons records destroyed or are all service records kept forever no matter how long the service was .
i have looked at the ways of finding this out but i`m not gonna pay any moneys out
just wondered
You don't have to pay, just go to the following govenment web site. After filling in the form It took me a couple of additional emails to get the full record but the lady I dealt with was very helpful and patient. Allow a couple of weeks for initial reply though you should receive immediate confirmation.

Sorry, It's free to get your own records but a £30 charge for a relative.
Just found out as I want to trace my father's war time record. Started a family tree now, fascinating stuff, I might end up on TV in "Who do you think you are?"
