Henry Borthwick, the owner of H. Borthwick & Co. Carpenters and Joiners asked his friend Joe Ramsay, the driver of the BR autocoach service to take a pic of his new fence and sign when next he was driving the autocoach service past the back of his factory. Mr Borthwick is always always keen to attract new work and believes that even a new fence must pay for itself. His wife, Mrs Borthwick who does the bookkeeping, designed the sign.
Due to the slope of the embankment the new fence was built a few feet from the existing wire fence erected by the railway. The owner of the factory next door is also interested in the results of Mr Borthwick's advertising blitz and is considering adopting the same strategy.
The fence is carefully handcrafted matchsticks
, the sign is courtesy of Word while the wire fencing is laser cut ply posts with monofilament.
