Snow (in summer!)

Has anyone used any of the commercially produced snow products and are they any good? Or, does anyone know of any other way of producing snowy effects? Have looked at some on line videos but would appreciate members opinions.
Thank you.

On my City scene I have used a sprinkling of cheap talcum powder.
I know that some modellers have used it with effect on countryside fields etc.

Trouble with snow on a layout is it is a bit permanent as it doesn’t thaw.

Thank you Glencairn. WTD - you’re being silly!

Only a bit. My point is that once it has snowed you can’t get rid of it easily. Snow scene layouts are extremely rare at shows.

Yesterday I was down the boatshed and using Microballons mixed with epoxy as a fairing/filling mix.
You wouldn’t want to use the epoxy but Microballons are pure white, they are hollow glass bubbles very light and lay just like snow. I think they would work in the same way that you lay ballast with PVA. Just don’t sneeze!

Dave.

Thank you Dave.
WTD - I don’t mind permanent snow as I thought I’d have a go with a winter scene because as you rightly pointed out, not many people model them.

I think it will be worth doing. Make a nice change.
