In the mail today I received a suethe no22 smoke unit
Which obviously did not fit inside of the terriers chimney
(Bought the unit before the loco arrived )
Being stubborn I still managed to sort it out

•started by taking the unit apart , removing the brass body and revealing the heating element
•I then got the tolls out and began rounding the bottom of the smoke unit to about 4-3.5mm to the point it snugly fitted into the smoke stack
•used some 250 degrees Celsius poxy and sealed the bottom

Only just seen this - looks great! I had a triang loco when I was about seven and it too smoked. I thought it was great. Certainly adds another element to the model. Makes me wonder - why have all the sounds etc when one of the obvious details is smoke. I can only recall seeing live steam locos at exhibitions that smoke.

One of the troubles with smoke units was if the loco had one the smoke had to be used all the time. Allowing the unit to run without any oil caused it to overheat. Not sure if this is the case with modern versions. I guess they can be switched off with DCC.

Also the smoke does tend to coat everything in a thin film of oil.

Well done Zeno fitting it in such a small loco, brilliant mini engineering.

When using suethe smoke oil it leaves a coating
Thankfully from my experience Dapol smoke oil works beautifully and doesn’t really leave me any residue

Just fitted the loco with a laisdcc decoder which surprisingly having a 100mA output works splendidly
