Can anyone tell the vintage of this loco?

I have what I think is a Hornby Fowler 2P, but I am willing to be corrected. I acquired it as part of a job lot and am curious how old it is. considering the state it is in, in runs remarkably well.
It has the old Hornby
Railways logo underneath. I have had a quick look online, but all the ones I have found are tender driven and this isn't.

1960's would be my bet or perhaps early 70's. Been repainted by the look of the tender underside.

Would it not be Triang-Hornby if it was that vintage?

It hasn’t got a vintage coupling but that might have been changed. Early 70's most likely. You say it says Hornby underneath. They released a 2P in 73.

That looks like it. The body screw S1003 is missing so the body just sits on the chassis. It is in a bit of a state, but it runs really well. Even over points.

R450 appeared in 1973 albeit not catalogued until 1974. It was a modification of the 1960 SR L1 with a different cab and heavily compromised in its accuracy

Just looked at the current 4P offering on the Hornby website and I have to say it does not exactly look like a great leap forward.

I was planning to sell my 2P, but now I think I will keep it and restore it.

I came across this loco while searching for some LMS loco's to add to my collection but noticed it was the Railroad version so left well alone, some Railroad loco's are quite decent but i have to agree with comment on this loco. I just wish Hornby would catalogue the Railroad stuff as RR.....
