TTS Tender Buzz

Hi
I bought quite some time ago a second hand Hornby TTS Flying Scotsman second hand. It worked for a while and then abruptly developed a buzz in the tender and stopped.
I put it away in a box and forgot about it.
This week I bought the Railroad TTS Scotsman, seemed like a good deal. Put it on the tracks, same thing!
I have detached the tender from the loco and put it on the tracks, the noise persists. I have taken the tender apart, can't see any obvious error.
Could it be the layout itself?
Is this such a common problem that I am as well to throw the towel in with TTS or can anyone suggest a resolution?
Cheers

More info required. What controller are you using.

Have tried with Hornby analogue controller and NCE Power Cab.

Are they both second hand. If so are you sure the decoders are fitted.

The first one is second hand and did for some time work with the sound.
The new one is brand new.

Sounds like a layout problem if two locos do it.

Reset the controller first, then each decoder.
Do you see the same outcome.
If so connect the controller to a simple piece of track and try again, away from the layout.

Alternatively, wire up a piece of track separate from your controller as a test track and test each loco.
Especially important if you've changed any CV settings and can't recall which ones (although you may be able to read them back).

I have at least 9 loco's fitted with TTS, my layout is controlled by Gaugemaster PA2 and Roco z21 and have not experienced any problems with controllers or sounder decoders.
Do you know anyone close by who also has a DCC set up to test your loco's on another layout or a shop or even local club?

Be aware lockdown rules mean that this isn't possible at the moment. Shops and clubs are closed and a visit to someone close by is likely to be a 'social' visit in the eyes of the Covid police!
