Very interesting - also the location in the South of France may be of interest to @Yelrow as he's also in France (I know it's a big country!).
Dublo was a little before my time of the 60's when Triang then Triang Hornby were the choice made by my parents.

Yup, know about him. Very clever’ but i, as a purist, prefer them as god intended. Think it detracts from value.

Very nice, but I can't see the need for stay alive on Hornby Dublo 3 rail because having a loco stall over points or crossings is such a rare occurance anyway, why bother? Three rail runs much better then 2 rail because it has far more current contact between the track and the loco. The current is aided through the metal couplings on the rolling stock. The central rail pickup is doubled on nice weighty locos, so I can't see an issue.
His class A4 was very jerky at slow speed. It is as if it has hardly been run in. My 3 rail locos ran at slow speeds without jerking much at all, which may go to show that higher milage locos do run better then those which have hardly turned a wheel, though I will say that I have not run mine for a while. Urmmm. A few years...
I am not exactly sure what to do with mine. If it was about 15 years ago I would have been looking to convert them to 2 rail but things have changed around where HD 3 rail is becoming more saught after so I may as well leave them in 3 rail form. It is strange how things change as it seemed only yesterday that HD 2 rail was saught after but 3 rail was cheap. How things change!
