Can you add sound and smoke to factory Dcc fitted locos?

#1

Post by Zeno »

I have recently bought a o gauge locomotive that comes Dcc fitted
This might be a newbie question but can i add a smoke unit and sound to that decoder or will i need to buy a totally new decoder? I probably should’ve asked this question before i bought the loco but oh well such is life 😂
A little dingy , but I’ll get there

You should be able to add sound and the normal way is to replace the motor/function decoder with a sound/motor/function one of suitable size and current capacity for 0 gauge motor.

Smoke unit will depend on the area its to be fitted and whether the loco chimney has a suitably sized hole and is able to have hot smoke oil vapour pass through it without distorting the moulding, assuming its plastic?

It is plastic however a Seuthe 22E should be fine for the model

That model has a current rating of 120 milliamp, so ensure your decoder of choice has a function output current rating higher than the 22E needs :D

I mean I will probably end up replacing the decoder as a whole with a zimo MX644D as I’ve seen those in action and heard very good things about them so shouldn’t really be a problem
Just waiting for the loco to arrive and then move on with a plan of action
A little dingy , but I’ll get there

If you purchased the loco direct from Dapol they would logically fit their own Imperium 21 pin decoder. These are 6 function but limited to 100mAmp per function.....decoder details can be found on their website....HB
Sorry I'm late but I couldn't get my flip-flops to work

Hi
I guess the DCC Fitted non sound Loco will be supplied with Dapol's own brand 21 pin Imperium decoder. (DCC Ready has no decoder just the connection)
The Terrier sheet is available as a PDF download via this link https://www.dapol.co.uk/pdfs/O-Gauge-Terrier.pdf
