WiFi module for Gaugemaster

#1

Post by IanS »

As posted elsewhere in another thread, I have a Gaugemaster wi-fi module and can find it using Engine Shed (Android app) however it keeps dropping the connection or timing out. Does anyone use this combination? Do you have the same issues? I've tried it on multiple Android phones and all seem to have the same issue.

I'm thinking of trying it on with WiFiThrottle on the iPad. Does it have the same issues? At a push I could also use a laptop, however the portability of the phones is what attracted me to purchase the wi-fi setup so I'm reluctant to do that.

Hi Ian

Drop Gaugemaster an email or better phone them 01903 884488. (They are in Tier 2 so should still be open for sales/advice etc)
I have always found them very helpful. :D

I will. I was hoping someone used a similar system and could say 'I have no problems'.

Not got the GM system to prove it, but I have heard these true wireless systems (as opposed to IR) can be affected by spurious transmissions in the immediate area, such as microwaves, powerline adaptors are very RF noisy and even being too close to a TV or PC monitor can cause drop-out or failure to connect.

I tried my iPad and while I don't like the software layout, it worked flawlessly during a 10 min test where the Android phones I've tested continually dropped out. Seems it's not the module that's the problem but the phones :(

I'd have borrowed a friends Android tablet to test, but with Covid restrictions that's not possible. :( Oh well, I either accept the poorer interface or risk purchasing an Android tablet to dedicate to the task and hope it will work as well as the iPad.
