Tiny Servo

On my new layout I have opted for servo motors for all my points, gates and other moving features. In a couple of places I have limited space so when I found out about linear servo motors I thought I would get one to play with. These are mostly used for RC cars, small RC aircraft or toy robots. They are quite a bit dearer than the ubiquitous TowerPro 9 gram ones I usually use so will have to put it to use on my layout somewhere. I didnt realise just how small these things are! In fact I almost chucked it out with the packaging! Anyway here it is in case others are interested.

Keramba! They are indeed quite pricey, I hope you can put it to use. Is the power consumption similar to the 9g ones you refer to [and which I use] or do you need another circuit? R-

Not had chance to try it yet Roger, will let you know when I do. I paid £7.50 with free postage from eBay.

Never looked there. I saw the label and looked up the UK website. I'm not sure of your model but the 3 linear motors they have in stock are in the £17 range. Would be interested to hear how you get on with them especially if they make much noise. R-

Well first I had to cut off the plug as it had a smaller format connector fitted (probably for their use in RC aircraft where space is a premium). I expect you can buy cable adapters but I didnt have one, but I did have the cable cut off a TowerPro that I b******d up. So I spliced the tiny wires and connected it up to my trusty servo tester and it ran very smoothly. End to end travel is approx 9mm and took less than a second to move that distance using the tester which runs off 3x AA batteries (4.5v). Noise level is no more than a TowerPro 9g. I havent tried but I would say it would have no problem moving a Peco style turnout, though I would remove the spring from the turnout first (all my turnouts have the spring removed).

Looking at that web site Roger it looks identical to the S2000 model. I would not have paid that price though! I did order a couple from China at just over £10 for the two delivered but after two months they cancelled the order and I got a full refund through Paypal. The guy I bought this one off was asking for a tenner with free postage or offers; I offered him £7.50 which I thought was a fair price and he accepted. Ordered Saturday, arrived today, Tuesday.

Here are a couple of close up photos.

Thanks TDD for the info and the new images. Certainly look to be amazingly tiny and up against some of the other slow motion servos [ not the Tower Pro ] not unbearably expensive. I imagine, given their intended use, they will be very robust. Look forward to hearing more when convenient. R-
