Computer Control

I am looking at this again in greater depth.

I have a Gaugemaster Prodigy Advance 2 system with the DCC05 wifi module. I can use this with WiThrottle but only one train at a time.

I now have a PC in my train shed, I can find the Prodigy wifi connection as MRCWi-Fi_Trainshed.

I now want to run trains and this is where I am stuck.

I have downloaded the JMRI software but the only connection information I can find wants a serial port or a Simulator, cannot find a wireless option. Is there a way to connect the JMRI to my Prodigy wirelessly?

There is also available an MRC Prodigy DCC Computer Interface that I have download and looked at on my PC, it has two throttles, claims to be easier to use than JMRI with an option to purchase something else that will/may connect my PC to the Prodigy wirelessly does anyone have experience of this device?

I can find 0001510 WIRELESS COMPUTER INTERFACE FOR PRODIGY ADVANCE, ADVANCE2 OR EXPRESS and 0001515 WIRELESS COMPUTER INTERFACE FOR PRODIGY ADVANCE, ADVANCE2 OR EXPRESS.
Is the 0001510, a USB dongle, the one that the MRC Prodigy Wireless Interface is looking for and will that connect to the DCC05 instead of the more expensive option the 0001515, a USB dongle and another dongle that connects to the Prodigy?

I have looked at the DCC55 wire connection but wired is not an option.

Thank you

Hi
All the MRC/Gaugemaster Wireless options in JMRI are I believe related to the actual wireless (Radio) throttle, not the WIFI unit.
While I don't have a WiFi unit, I would try the standard Advanced 2 option. It shouldn't cause any harm if wrong.
Otherwise post a question on the JMRI forum?

I have a Prodigy Express2 with wi-fi module. The wi-fi module acts as a 'server' and should be found via the wireless connection on a PC in the same way as a connection to your router. It worked that way when I connected to the wi-fi module via an Android phone and 'should' work in the same way for a PC connection or Apple iPhone/iPad connection.

The software is the important thing, and should find that connection once established.

I could be completely wrong! But it should be as simple as selecting the wi-fi module name in the wi-fi setup on the PC and running the appropriate software........

Will have another look. Did see some server sections in the JMRI but they seemed to want port numbers. Won't be for a couple of days as I've got a busy few days coming up.

Its very simple really!!..... You put a large key in a hole which has a square rod centred in the hole, the end of the key engages the rod via a square hole in the keys end. Turn the key Clockwise for several 360 degree twists, remove key and keep safe. Place loco on track and watch it go like a Bat of of hell for up to 50 Mtrs then slow and stop. Go and rewind loco mechanism, but you now cannot find the key or remember where you put it!! :D :D :o

That's probably why we now use electricity :D

Back to topic...
I don't use GM WiFI, so Im rather guessing here, but won't your Tablet/Smartphone or whatever you're using "See" the GM router? Look for it when its powered up in the devices WiFi setting?

On my iPad I have WiThrottle which picks up the GM WiFi signal and uses it.

On my PC I can also pick up the GM WiFi signal and can add it as an unsecured public network. What I haven’t worked out is how to get either control program to use the WiFi signal. Best guess is that I am missing the appropriate codecs to get them to understand each other.

As I like the MRC program more than the JMRI I have contacted Gaugemaster and await their reply.

Found this
Hardware Support: MRC/GaugeMaster Prodigy Advanced2
Please download the latest JMRI release to get the most recent version of JMRI's MRC/GaugeMaster support. Support for MRC Prodigy is available starting with JMRI version 3.9.1.
In the UK the MRC systems is rebranded, rebadged and sold by Gaugemaster. The two systems are exactly the same in operation and components.
Connecting
JMRI can connect to an MRC Prodigy Advanced2 command station via the USB Computer interface (MRC:1516 or Gaugemaster:DCC55). This has been tested with the wired and wireless versions of the interface.
JMRI should be able to support all of the MRC Prodigy range of systems, however it has only been tested and developed with the Advanced2.
Still waiting for a reply from Gaugemaster
