Hi guys
I have recently removed some redundant garden lighting and I am left with 2 transformers.
1. 240vac 70va input to 12vac - 60va output
2. 230-240 vac input to 12vac 7000mA 84va output
Could these be used for a power supply for lighting on my layout?
At the moment I have a mixture of 12v GoW and LEDs these are being fed from a Gaugemasted Tx with a bridge rectifier in line. The GoWs will be fazed out and replaced with LEDs.
I would like to feed the lighting from a separate supply, would one of these Tx be suitable?

These are very high current output and way above the normal requirements for a model railway lighting plus they are AC outputs.
Whatever you do remember the current from these is far higher than normally used. Therefore it should be split and each protected accordingly.

So here's my take.. Use a full wave bridge rectifier rated at 10 or more Amps (higher wont hurt). This will convert the AC into DC (Better for LEDs!)
Next sub divided the DC output from the bridge rectifier in more realistic current limits per sub section. Suggest 1.0Amp thermal self resetting circuit breakers per sub circuit. You could have four or five sub circuits each protected by its own CB.

I think I will toss them in the bin with the lights, They are quite bulky and heavy anyway
I have a couple of PSUs from laptops I can use instead.
