Working at my lock...

british botw lock house 007.JPG
Trying to recreate some version of a toll house on the venerable British canal system. I used a paper kit, but
found the detail of it a bit daunting to my poor level of skill. I tried to modify it, using the broader strokes
of the images of the walls, and such, and leaving it out the finer detail. I'm not terribly happy with how it
is turning out, so will likely scrap the lot and start over. Not much room to work with, but that is part of the
challenge. I did order some white metal lock gates from Langely, that will help, I think. For my limited purposes,
I also considered the out-of-production Skaledale canal system, but that stuff flies off the shelf whenever it
turns up and is frightfully expensive. Funny, it seems to have a strong demand on the resale market, but not enough
for Hornby to re-issue it.

Being a bit hard on yourself there Chops - unless I’ve misunderstood - the cottage looks great in your posting.

I agree.

Why have lock gates? A canal boat moored by a pub is far easier to model. :)

Well thanks, but the Toll House is a one piece resin casting! The lock gates, had to have, one of the
memories held dear of motoring on these remarkable waterways. The good news is I'm having fun with all
this. Ah, yes, the ubiquitous pub, a great fixture, that!

After that posting, I did go in there and pull it out like a weed, and found a new place for the canal and
requisite Toll House- it has a much more natural feel in it's new location. Once I get it scenicked in a bit
I'll post.
