Hornby T9 R2712 BR black 30724

Hi everyone,
Here’s a curious question.
My former postman who also attends the meetings of the local RCTS branch I chair, came by earlier with a question. He recently purchased a secondhand R2712 Hornby T9 in BR Black. Running number 30724.

While lined out this doesn’t have a BR crest on the tender side, either early nor late, it appears like that on the box itself and looking at pictures of the model on line this seems to be standard.

Anyone know why this model doesn’t have the BR crest? Production error, deliberate policy, prototypical?

He, and I, would be fascinated to know the reason.

This is modelled to represent the early days of BR. At some point during this period, Eastleigh found itself short of new BR transfers, and a number of locos were outshopped after overhaul without the totems. I have seen photos of other engines in this state, such as M7s and King Arthurs for example.

So it is indeed intended to be prototypical.

EDIT: And here's 30313 in a similar state after overhaul - https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-R ... -dVS7q4z/A
And 30719 https://mikemorant.smugmug.com/Trains-R ... -MqZwsRL/A
