I have just received some paper backed back scene and was wondering if the best way of fixing it to sealed ply wood is to use wall paper paste. Or is there something else which modellers use these days.

There is a specific glue on the market but I found it to be worse than useless. I have also tried PVA and wallpaper paste but the bubbles are a nightmare. The other problem is that water based glues tend to allow the backscene to stretch as you smooth it out - then it will shrink when it dries.
The only success I have had was when I used a aerosol glue made for upholstery but you only get one shot at positioning the backscene.
For my most recent effort I didn’t bother and just painted the damn thing green and blue.

I used wallpaper paste. The wrinkles are still there.

I used self-adhesive backscenes and was very careful when applying them, but I still got air-bubbles and the odd crease.

I used strong double sided tape.

I am looking at all the ideas and I reckon the double-sided tape sounds very promising. My original idea of using wall paper paste is out the window.
Thanks everyone you have given me lots to think about. I reckon the Tape is the way to go. Will let you know how I get on.
Hope I don't end up with wrinkles as I got enough of them already. Thanks all............John

You are much more likely to get wrinkles and bubbles using paste John. Just take your time with the tape and all will be well.

Yes Terry will be careful doing it. I don't want to spoil the job. Let's face it this layout is taking me a long time so a bit longer will not matter.
Been building it now since January. Hoping to be able to post photos of the first train running in a month or so..........John
