I note that Hornby's new terrier has now arrived. Personally I intend to resist the temptation to buy one having already put a deposit on the Rails / Dapol version a year ago. In any case I don't know what others think but in a world in which all modern locos seem to be far too easy to unwittingly damage Hornby to me are the worst. Why on earth for example use plastic for a cab mounted whistle? The situation is far from improved by Hornby's failure to provide anything approaching a decent range of body spares. Hornby's move to squeeze Dapol by competitive pricing is not attractive as we enthusiasts gain from having a range of manufacturers. We would have been much better off had Hornby opted to produce an updated version of for example the old Hornby SECR L1 than a second terrier

I received the Terrier the other day, it’s a beauty. I don’t have a problem with bits falling off. I never return locos to their boxes, unless I decide to sell one, and handle them with care. We asked for detail and got it.

P.S. Why would a plastic whistle be a problem?

Because a brass one as traditionally affixed would be stronger!

True. Can’t say I’ve ever knocked a whistle off, unless I didn’t notice, which is quite possible.
