Yes it is portable at a pinch but I would have to make a board with a back drop on because the current one is stuck to the wall (don't tell my wife she thinks it is blue tak lol).
I have been asked about exhibiting both of my lay outs but I do worry about damage because of the tiny detail bits I have added and things like the telephone wires.

Oh, Dr Beeching what have you done?
There once were lots of trains to catch, but soon there will be none!
Somewhere I bought a reel of wire that was flexible. It wasn't cheap but it is ideal. I'm thinking that if you get some of that type of wire which is more like thin elastic, it maybe the ideal answer.
The funny thing was that last night I was having thoughts about making telegraph poles out of some sturdy strong metal which could double up to support a second board on top for transportation purposes. It was just an idea... I have many ideas going through my mind. It's acting on them I could do with concentrating on.
When I get to do some scenic work, I am going to need to be careful that I don't overdo it with the scenic touch as it won't match the rest of what I've made, though I don't think I will reach that point as its my more natural standards that I'm building with. I've had an offer of an artist to paint my backscenes but his work is so detailed and precise that my layout wouldn't look right. People who have seen his work often find it difficult to believe its not a photograph. He's not painted for a couple of years though as he is struggling through with a health issue.
I never forget with my last layout where I wasn't allowed to paint the wallboards, so I cut out Brian Sheriff backscenes mounted on Peco skypaper. It all looked great (Well, great in my eyes!) but years later when I took the layout down I could see little marks here and there... Oops!
If its not that it is something very similar. It probably is that. I bought a reel over a decade ago and I think the reel cost me somewhere around £10 to £15? Something that I paid the price because it was so useful (Potentially as I've not used it yet!)
