After spending some time learning about HEVC video and codecs (don't ask, its as dull as ditchwater), I finally managed to extract the unplayable video clips from the other mobile phone.
Same subjects, different angles.

My latest NYMR video from the Autumn Steam Gala. Since my last effort I have acquired a new computer and today discovered that the old Windows 'Movie Maker' has been retired. Struggling to find a different editor that's free (no point paying for only a couple of videos each year) and that will handle some of the larger files that modern phones produce.
This one is called Lightworks, basic but a bit slow on large files, so I'll have to make shorter YouTube clips to keep them manageable.
Apologies for my dog making an audible contribution with his whining.

Windows 11 has a built-in video maker software called Clipchamp, which on first glance looks a bit like Move Maker.
Sorry if you knew this already!

I did indeed find it. It's way too basic for my taste unfortunately.
Light works is a fraction better imho but I did have to wash my clips through an HEVC player (HEVC is the Samsung default setting!!) to convert them to a readable MP4 format. Light works clipping/editing is very easy and intuitive.
I am in the process of upgrading my phone so who knows what will be compatible with that if I ever get it - long story but Tesco mobile have not covered themselves in glory recently.

Steve, if you want a full video suite, DaVinci Resolve is a free offering that seems to be well regarded. Apparently it rivals Final Cut Pro on the Mac.
Don't ask me how to use it...it's one area i've never really looked at!

I'll take a look.
I did a bit of video editing in a former life - learnt a lot in a professional editing suite producing in-house videos for NatWest.
I don't do enough these days to warrant 'proper' software.

I took your advice Steve and found DaVinciResolve - initial searches only took me to a paywall for movavi but I gotv there in the end.
Perhaps not so intuitive as some software but in the end it seemed to cope (just) with Smsung's HEVC protocols and adding titles required a peek at the instructions.
Threw together this little clip as a test and yes, it is railway related.
