Hi Steve
Boiler bands as shown seems to be the standard so please leave them as they are. I can't think of anything to help re the lining on the running plate -
it's very conspicuous .
You're doing a grand job - it looks really nice

The light at the end of the tunnel is probably a train coming towards you
Although the additional lining hasn’t arrived yet, I thought I would try again with the one from the original set.
This one was trimmed widthways and cut into shorter, more manageable lengths. Still not entirely happy (but I am comparing it with the tampo printing on r-t-r models) but definitely better than t’other side.
Let’s see how it dries before thinking about a waft of varnish to seal it.
A slight change of direction today. Renumbered my Ivatt 2MT and while sealing the transfers with satin varnish, I varnished the tender of the Black 5.
I still have the smoke box number to do on the 2MT but that can wait until I repaint the smokebox with matt black.
Finished renumbering the Ivatt. Added the smokebox door numberplates after repainting the smokebox itself - a mix of dark grey and black with a waft of straight black over the top to tone it down.
Pleased with this one - replica of the real one at the MHR that I rode on this summer.
The Black 5 has taken a back seat while I was waiting for some new transfers.
They’ve taken nearly ten days but arrived this morning with an apology from Modelmaster - reason: guilotine accident and a stitched thumb!
These transfers look to be somewhat finer than Fox’s version so hopefully I will be able get them to fit a little better. I’ve removed the set I applied first and we’ll see how we go over the next few days.
I’ll also be looking for tips (and more paint supplies) at the Warley show on Sunday.
First thing this morning I sealed the completed side with satin varnish. The Modelmaster transfers proved to be a much better fit along the running plate - so I removed the Fox transfers from the other side.
I made a start later this evening- two attempts and total failure! The moral being don't attempt detail modelling while still jet lagged from the round trip to the NEC yesterday.
Try again tomorrow.
