Another Mogul added

Just need to dodge Swiss customs now, not a easy task.

Here is my latest purchase, a kitbuild A3 finished as 2500 later 60035 Windsor Lad.

I opened the box on Saturday just gone and was very impressed with the loco.

Testing the loco on power revealed a problem, sometimes the wheels would turn and sometimes they wouldn't so I began to investigate the cause. I will poat a picture of the chassis later but I must also advise that the valve gear has changed a bit due to a few pieces going awol and the motor has been removed but until the picture is posted I will attempt to describe the problem.

On the rear of the chassis, the piece that the rear pony is screwed into has separated from 1 of the main chassis frames which in turn, has resulted in the piece where the motor would be screwed to coming loose and causing the motor to lift up off the gear.

Not being an expert in chassis construction, I am unable to repair the problem as I only have a 40 watt soldering iron which I don't think would get hot enough to get the brass hot enough to be repaired.

I tried gluing the joint but it rapidly came apart again when I tested the motor on the chassis to see if it would run which has resulted in me making some major modifications to the inside of the loco body so that it would fit onto a1 of my converted Hornby chassis which itself has significantly improved in performance due to the weight of the body and yesterday under test conditions including some dirty sections of rail, the loco hauled 11 mainline mk1 coaches with only minor slipping.

I will post a picture later of the chassis issue if anybody wants to see it.

Here is the cause of the drive issue mentioned in the post above, my apologies if I confused anybody with the description of the issue.

I know these are not a specific coach, but close enough to the Dean Clerestory corridor 56' for me

2x brake and 3x 3rd class to make up a nice little rake, missing an actual recess on the panels, but the printing looks real nice and makes up for it IMO. I bought from a couple of different sellers, all are mint condition. The couplings will be swapped for some close mag couplings in due course.

As I don't have a GWR mogul, and my track is meant to be GWR based, I thought this would be a nice loco to haul the Clerestory's .. and I believe they were a common workhorse for GWR.

It wasn't priced too bad for a brand new loco either and If Ms. J.Kirk is correct, I should be able to fit an HM7K Sound Decoder in it by removing the plastic boxes for speaker and stay alive plugs.

Its also (I believe) from the second batch so benefits from a couple of production tweaks,

TBH I really fancied a City Class, but they were A: out of service by 1932, so well before my operational period, and B: seem quite rare to find and silly money when you can, TBH that was the nail in the coffin, as otherwise Rule1 would have been invoked

But the Mogul will do I think

That looks a lovely loco! When I was into GWR, the Mogul was one that I wanted but wasn't able to get. Was a case of funds only stretched so far. Mainline locos were being offered in those days at good prices via Dapol, but my pocket money, and skimping on meals to use my dinner money to try and save... I was able to get a prairie and a manor. Already had two kings, a hall and two panniers, a Holden 0-4-0, a GWR railcar, and later had a small prairie bought secondhand... I made myself a GWR diesel shunter by converting an 08... GWR modelling was fun for a teenager and it really gave me a love of local GWR history, as I saw pictures and track diagrams from the past in books and was able to trace where they were and used to be.
Another loco I wanted but could not afford was a castle class. Also wanted both types of county but never had them either.
My favourite were the two panniers. One was the Hornby 8751 which I had since I was young. (Sold it in my 20's. Actually have another now though it may get converted! We shall see. I want to retain its charm and character if it ends up as narrow gauge. The other was the lovely Mainline pannier which I bought secondhand but immaculate. Ooh! I also bought a Replica pannier. Forgot about that! And years after I had abandoned GWR in my 20's, I picked up an open cab pannier (Hornby) going cheap. A friend had that from me and he passed away so it will be coming back my way.

I LOVE those clerestory coaches. They were also out of my price reach! Lovely things!
