I had this on pre-order from Hornby. OK it’s a ‘Railroad’ version but for less than £40 it’s a bit of a steal.

One screw to get the body off reveals a good amount of space for a decoder. The chassis looks as if it could have a DCC socket fitted at the front while there is space in the top of the body t fit a normal size decoder on a wiring harness.

I happened to have a DZ126 in the bits box which has been hard wired into the loco and secured at the front of the chassis with a double sided sticky pad.

Tomorrow I will paint some of the details in the cab and add some coal. On order are some new transfers in red/black/gold to cover the gold lettering applied at the factory.

That's a nice conversion Rob. Personally I would use a sugarcube speaker to make the job even easier. Not sure which of the current TTS decoders available would be most suitable.

The one I used was an early Tornado test article from memory. I know it has most (6 or 7) of the available TTS whistles at the time and the chuff rate is almost an exact match for the track speeds I use it at.

Someee basic detailing done. Staples for lamp irons, lamps (I need a couple on the side) coal, bucket, fire irons, crew and picked out some detail in the cab.
Some new lettering is on order from Fox Transfers and, if I get a new airbrush, I may even try a spot of weathering.

The replacement transfers arrived today, a couple more dabs of paint and a couple of lamps on the side and we’re done.
