Creating brickwork.

#1

Post by Nine Elms »

I am using FreeCAD to create 3D printouts with some success. I have drawn and printed a loco shed but I have used paper printed brickwork for the walls. I would like to create a textured brick wall and my question is:

Do you create individual bricks and copy, or a block of say 2 courses and copy that as many times as required?

Difficult to put into words, but hopefully you understand!!

I've not done brickwork yet, but in my small projects I have found cut and paste to be my friend.
I made a girder bridge some years ago - just designed the constituent parts then cloned them as required. I would approach bricks or any regular pattern the same way.

I am using tinkercad as full CAD software is beyond me, which is odd given that many moons ago I did use it for work !
But I digress, I have found the best way for me was as you say. draw a brick ( usually 0.2-0.3 mm proud of the base thickness), duplicate with a suitable gap for a mortar joint and once I have a row, I copy and paste with the required offset, rinse and repeat until its covers the area required.
