Rog (RJ) wrote: Thu Jun 18, 2020 1:45 pm Less expensive versions are also available if you search around.
Not something i require Rog, I have been soft soldering, silver soldering, brazing and welding Copper Ally, Stainless and carbon steel for 60yrs. My only problem is keeping the hands steady these days!!!!!
I am a Coppersmith by trade, we used to double weld 3/4" thick copper using oxy/acetylene torches!
Double welding copper with acetylene! That must taken a lot of skill, back in the day I used to double weld stainless steel tanks with tig. We only went to 6mm thick and could be a pain, can't imagine how difficult 3/4 copper would be.

One for the non soldering members!!
Just revived this old thread after coming across a tear down by BigClive.dot com. The conclusion being that the soldered part of the joint is not really up to scratch and a much sounder joint could be produced with normal soldering and glue lined shrink sleeving.
