A mature 60ft tree, which isn’t particularly tall, would be 10 inches in OO.

The use of N gauge items is good for emphasising distance. I used a Hornby Lyddle End cottage on my hillside - not sure whether to add people or not.

I think your home made ones look more natural. The problem with a lot of the "off the shelf" ones are that they are too symetrical and just dont look right (to me at least). I have seen some really beauiful hand made ones for sale at exibitions but the prices have been exorbitant.
