Most of the stuff on offer is good old cellulose - no good for models. I have found acrylic via somewhere associated with Aston Martin - must increase my labour charges to match.

The next project on the list - a full repaint of a ‘Duchess’ to get I’d of the disgusting brown paint Hornby used.
So, the perennial question is what is the ‘correct’ shade of crimson/maroon?
Not sure if this will work in the photos but I have prepared five quick samples for comparison - I can tell immediately which one I won’t use, but would welcome comments. The samples are unlabeled so it’s a ‘blind’ test.

That’s the trouble with photos - they never truly reflect the shade. I would describe the original as a shade of brown rather than crimson/maroon.

I would say either of the two shades on the left, depending on the look your after ex works or weathered. The loco colour in the photo looks a little
on the pink side to me, Crimson lake should be a deeper red than shown on the loco.

Steve - Stop messing around, paint it BR Blue with full yellow ends and be done with it - LOL.

Careful or I’ll let the owner know where you live.
It is tempting though.

A start had been made. All the small mouldings that can be removed, have been. Some serious and careful masking needed now.
