Like Roger I stuck mine down whilst off the layout, flat on a table (and with the help of the missus). I put a strip along top, bottom and sides and for good measure I wrapped it around the edges and stuck that down with normal tape. Probably overkill as this stuff is designed to stop carpets moving round the floor! I used thin ply rather than hardboard (hate the stuff!) as I had an abundance of it.
