Hopefully the final thread on this topic...……….Traction Maintenance Depot is pretty much done in terms of the track bed and general layout - everything suitably oily and dirty including now also the refuelling point, such that my weathered locos now look right at home.
Working on several areas of my layout at the moment including a revised route onto the branch line, but will slowly potter away at the depot as I want to complete the brick cladding on the low relief buildings ( mind-numbing job that I can be easily distracted from) and then generally dress the depot with bits and pieces ( stillages, yard lamps etc etc), before finalising the signal box location and adding greenery to the large sweeping curved area in front of the depot ( I am finding playing with scatters, trees and bushes etc to be one of the most rewarding aspects of modelling).
Thanks for all the inputs to help steer me in the correct direction to get the right finish on the depot trackbeds - very pleased with how it has turned out, even if the ends of my fingers are now also stained with track oil wash
As usual any feedback and comments welcome - thank Richard
PS - Also finished the exterior wall to the depot and fitted a neat little Gate house and gate......I feel I want to have the tops of a couple of tall vehicles ( trucks / buses etc) passing along the other side of the wall to give the impression of there being a road on the other side and not just the greenery in the backscene ( I painted the gate a bright blue so that perhaps one's eyes are drawn to the gate and rather than what's beyond it)...…..any suggestions where I might be able to download images of 1970's / 80's vehicles in 1:76 scale...…..the pictures of model ones all seem to be taken at a 45 degree angle, whereas I just want the vehicle side-on profile ????
