Ah yes WTD. He did demonstrate it with 3 rail locos which are the most numerous to suffer from weak magnets chiefly due to their age.
I see your point Footplate, as with modern motors the magnets would need to be removed to remagnetize them holding them in some sort of a jig?
It is surprizing how with a little thought one can replace a motor in some cases with another of a different size and or shape. I have done this myself on my loco number 1, and held the motor in using a pair of small cable ties. It is a matter of lining up to get the correct angle and gap so the worm meshes correctly with the gear. I had used the worm and gear which came from the donor loco along with the motor, as I was fitting them all on a different chassis.

Any way looking at the remag which has been around for years now and works great is all very fine and that but can you use it with the more recently used can motor we see on modern locos. I think it is not so practical with can motors. So if we can find out if the loco in question in the OP has a Can Motor or other type first of all.

Many thanks for all your feedback, gentlemen. The 5-pole motor is of classical "X-04" construction and stamped with the letters "KTM", who was well-known maker of brass models in those days. The magnet passes the screwdriver test fairly well, however a treatment with Mr Dodd's apparatus would surely not go amiss. Pic attached.

Hello Artur.,,,, Well it is not an X04 I dont think but very much like one. There were a few copies made. Lets face it the design was very good and robust. I cant see a bolt holding the motor together and magnet in place like the X03/4 design but there must be one out of shot.

KTM. Very nice motor by the looks of that. I had something similar in a Liliput Western. I think it was Liliput. Made in Wales. They look identical to the old Triang X03/X04 motors but are 5 pole. They can be remanetized quite easily with the right tools. A few places offer such services.

It does not look identical to an XO3/4 to me MG you should have gone to specsavers.

Brushes are very different. No V shaped spring to hold them in place.
