hi, Look on ebay foe H and M Duette or clipper. They have the grunt, and built like tanks. I use 9 of them on my layout for Hornby Dublo. Guagemaster, and Morley, are the best on the market, but expensive. Hornby 2000, are fine, but you wont go wrong with the 2 i have suggested. Cost about £20 ish ...

When placed on a track I can get it to go at a slow to moderate pace for a short duration before it dies and doesn't come back to life.
What controller are you using? The cheap standard controllers that come in modern sets have a quite low current capability. Older locos tend to draw more ...

Ebay is a good source for Dublo spares, the commutator will need a good cleaning,also the wheels and pick ups, new springs plus brushes will give it a new lease of life.

The magnet is week and the wires could probably do with a re solder too.
Brushes are worn but have at least a millimetre on the contact end.
