Carl, I've always used Humbrol no29 'dark earth' for my track. Available in aerosol.

So satisfying when it all works though!

Good to know. I have a few N gauge items to dispose of. Just hope you've not flooded the market.

I used to get random log outs on my old iPad - cured by clearing the cache (don't ask me how).

Good progress and a nice looking loco.

As has been said, it's not that difficult to change things after ballasting and, imho, substitutes are never going to look right.
Here's one I changed earlier - originally ballasted about four years ago.

I've uncovered the last few items from my old N gauge layout which I am unlikely to put to use again.
