I'm building a k'S 48XX at the moment. For the most part I've used superglue to get it together then I've soldered a tack inside the joints to make sure it stays together. I also use the Carrs solder and flux.

Painted surfaces on GWR station structures would generally be in a mix of two colours. Main panels in Light Stone, which was a creamy colour and detailing in Dark Stone which was something like a brown with a touch of purple

On another website I've seen the colours given as Light Stone - rgb 216 ...

If your 14xx is permanently coupled to an autocoach it might help to fit extra pick-ups using coach wheels.


On many WR branches goods wagons were attatched as a tail load and shunting was often done with the autocoach still attatched to save having to keep uncoupling the linkages.

I've found that the PL11 surface-mounted motor only barely has enough power to change an ordinary point,- the extra blades of a double slip might simply be too much for it.
For my double slip I've use the usual PL10 motors mounted directly to the underside with a piece of thin card sandwiched ...

I have seen advertised on ebay a little circuit board which "remembers" the last way a point was energised - which might be easy to install in the control panel to light LED's - but would have exactly the weakness Tricky Dicky and RAF97 mention of not detecting a failure of the point itself.

Well done Dublo, that looks a great layout your building.
I too am a fan of Hornby Dublo, though I've now sold off all my 3-rail track and stock. I've still kept my 2-rail stock which even though made 60 years ago, still runs just fine on my layout which uses code 100 track.

Perhaps maybe get an old Hornby Dublo Castle with a rock solid cast metal body.
I find with my aging eyesight it doesn't look that bad....if you can ignore the motor completely filling the cab!!

You obviously enjoy your scratchbuilding and kit bashing! Must give you a great feeling of being the "Company Engineer" !


I simply use Windows "Paint" to resize pictures. Changing to JEPG or GIF format can often reduce the file size.

Numberplates were often removed in those day to stop them being pilfered by collectors.

The layout has expanded about as far as it can around the four walls of my garage.
The board width at Marlow is 16 inches and 18 inches at the other two stations.
