In April 1970 I was asked by my Dad if I wanted to go down to Dairycoates in Hull as he had seen that HS4000 Kestrel was on the shed. It was being used for Stratford/Hull freightliners and I believe wasn’t there for very long. Like a fool I said no, something I still can’t believe I said.

Interesting, I’ve just had a look at images of the three main crossings in Hull, in the stream era, footbridges at both Hessle Road and Anlaby Road had metal loops over the top and one at Holderness Road was covered over, more mesh than a roof.

I suppose the jury is still out on the smoke deflectors; I’ve not tried them, but being at an angle they will sit awkwardly across the bracing brackets (if that’s what they’re called) and not sure what they will look like. I’m sort of hanging on the fact that the crossing in Hull idea is based on ...
