Re: WEST ORTON

One feature of the Hornby HMDCC system is the ability to load photos of your own locos into the app to aid loco selection and control. Many will just snap a loco on the layout, but I find those images a bit cluttered for use in an index. Instead, I prefer a plain background so I've built a light sta...

Re: WEST ORTON

A day out the other day for the memsahib's birthday included a quick visit to Hornby after her birthday lunch. The result was the addition of another BR standard, 6MT Clan Macdonald. I found it on the bargain shelf, so I fully expected to find some issues. Not disappointed as it had clearly been dro...

Cleaning Axles etc for improved electrical pickup

Hi All As part of my servicing of locomotives, I clean as many electrical contacts as possible. My question is this, keeping parts clean versus lubrication. For example some of my diesel/electric non powered axles are a bit grubby after years of use. Cleaning them has definitely improved loco perfor...

Re: Neptune Street

I wasn’t happy using cobble sets for footpaths, they didn’t look right, and the path was too narrow, so up it all came. I’ve now used ‘proper’ paving for the footpaths and the cobbles for the roadway. Happier now, but I need some more front door steps or there’ll be one or two broken ankles  ht...

Re: WEST ORTON

Great pictures Steve - do you drain down (empty) the water after steaming? I left the Black 5 overnight with water in the tank, and got clouds of steam next morning when I turned it on.

Re: WEST ORTON

I didn't drain either the Black 5 or FS from a couple of weeks ago. FS steamed well as soon as it connected. Can't say the same for the Black 5.
I'm hoping to get some feedback from our test group or it will be going back to Margate for investigation.

Re: Peco Crossings - reliable or troublesome ?

Bear in mind that the Peco Bullhead track is to finescale standards, and any older locos and stock that do not have good wheel profiles will experience problems with these points and crossings. For example, early Hornby China-built locos had a back-to-back wheel measurement of 14.2mm, whereas later ...
