Re: Sandy Hills The new layout
Not sure why but a scene I looked at looked smaller than 00. Yes. Actually prefer older controllers and somehow I abandoned DCC because after spending time with it it was the clunky switches and the cogratulating myself when my wiring all worked etc! (A good few hundred wires as I went overboard to ...

Re: Hi Everyone
I prefer DC as am one of those modellers who started off with DC, went full out into DCC and later due to budgeting circumstances and due to missing DC wiring and operation so much (Love the feel of "Clunky" switches), that I had to go back to DC! But hey! Both are good! Both have a place!...

Re: The Whitland & Cardigan Railway. ......
It runs through some of the nicest scenery there is! Whitland station... The old Cardi-Bach bay platform was on the north side of the station to the right of the photographs. The main line goes through the middle. The sidings to the left (On the south side of the station) and the bay platform on the...

Re: Hello
Hello. I like kits but prefer making my own experimental scratchbuilds... Nothing elaborate. Just fun little 7mm narrow gauge scratchbuilds. When I was into 00 I tended to mostly stick to ready made items. I think what scared me away from kits and scratchbuilding was that I could not really get my t...

Re: Class 121 DMU Query
Class 121's are all single car railcars. Other classes of DMU were run in 2, 3 and 4 car sets. (The few run in 4 car sets were later run as 3 and then as 2 car sets as they aged and their engines would regularly drop out. (Example from a guard who used to work them in the 1980's said they had such l...

Re: Peco Crossings - reliable or troublesome ?
A wheel back-to-back gauge would be useful?
Also, as long as the crossing is flat, there should not be a problem.

Re: Hello World!
Welcome back to the hobby.. it is a good hobby to be in.. Things have advanced a lot though the basics remain the same. Don't be scared off by todays high new prices as there are loads of secondhand bargains to be found. Probably the largest difference is DCC, though one does not have to go down tha...

Re: Trying to decide on a new Layout
I like going round the walls as it gives a nice long run, though in excessive heat and temperature differences,, a lifting part would probably best be avoided... So maybe a U shaped labour with loops at each end so you get a long U shaped continuous loop of a layout? (Rather like a U shaped dog bone...

Re: Hello from France !
Yes. Did have a Mamod loco myself once and also had a traction engine and a trailer which went very well. The steam loco hardly ran until I fixed it just before I sold it. Bought it as a kit and it leaked steam almost everywhere with the kits rubber seals. Soldered them instead and it worked! So I d...
